My Experience With the Night View Glasses

night-view-glasses-reviewWe moved from Manhattan to the country of New Hampshire eight years ago. While New York was lit up like Christmas every night, our area of New Hampshire had few streetlights or commercial lighting; in fact, some times at night the only light comes from headlights and the bright, beautiful stars. While it may look beautiful out, it can be disconcerting as a driver. In fact, the first time I drove at night in our new home, I called my husband in a panic: I thought there was something wrong with my eyes because of how poorly I could see.

It’s funny–I hated driving at night in New York too, but I rarely drove so the problem wasn’t so obvious at the time. Between city and country driving, Either there was too much lighting which was distracting and interfered with my ability to see, or there was too little, which made adequate visibility next to impossible.

Once we moved to New Hampshire, I found myself trying to avoid driving at night because I was worried about being unable to see. Considering it can get dark around 4:30 up here, that is a pretty limiting situation, especially on nights when my kids have sports practice, or my husband and I have a social event.

When I did drive at night out of necessity, I often got headaches from the stress and strain. Even the most minimal amount of glare caused my eyes to play tricks on me: I’d see double, or imagine non-existent shadows on the road.

My husband recently saw a commercial for Night View NV Glare Reduction Glasses. At first we wondered whether these could work as well as promised. We don’t typically rush into decisions, but I was fairly desperate at this point: winter was approaching, and I knew my night vision problems were about to get substantially worse. My husband said we have nothing to lose by ordering them: even if they helped only a little, I would still at least have some relief. We ordered a pair for each of us, thanks to a terrific “Buy One Get One Free” promotion currently going on at the website.

I am so glad we took the chance on the these night driving glasses. From the first time I used them I couldn’t believe how well they worked at counteracting the glare from which I’d been suffering.

Not only do the NV glasses look great, but they are attractive too. I am a bit of a fashionista, leftover from my days working as a PR girl in the city. This sleek, chic style adds polish to any outfit, and is a classic–so it won’t ever go out of style. They look great on my husband too, thanks to a unisex design.

My husband is an engineer, and he broke down the science so I could better understand how this amazing product works. They’re a lot like sunglasses; however, the tinted lenses are yellow, which blocks troubling blue light–the cause of glare. In doing so, other objects become sharper, and you eyes won’t have to work so hard. The funny thing is how great these glasses work in all conditions–we now both wear them in the day. We live in snow country, and they are also great for preventing snow blindness. I am already planning on getting a pair for my teen son next year when he starts driving; my only hope is that they expand the line to include prescription options so all of my friends can take advantage of this life-changing product.

Recently my father had started complaining about his eyesight at night; I could tell it was really bothering him. My mom doesn’t drive, and he loves to; plus, my parents go out to dinner in the evening a lot. I bought him a pair and also got a second pair for my mother, so she could have better visibility from the passenger seat. They absolutely love their Night View NV Glasses; I haven’t heard a single complaint from my father about his night vision driving since he started wearing them.

My Overall Review

night-view-glassesPros:

  • Work in all weather–from snow to rain to clear conditions
  • Strong and durable–hold up to all kinds of abuse, including from my toddler!
  • Block glare and other disconcerting distractions that can happen during night driving
  • Provide protection from the sun’s damaging rays–both UVA and UVB
  • Improve both safety and sense of security for drivers and passengers

Cons:

  • These come in only one “navigator” style. While this style is attractive and coordinates with everything, fashionistas may prefer several options
  • Because these are so effective, you’ll never want to drive without them again
