My Experience With 10 Minute Trainer
I had been hearing about Beachbody for months before I finally committed to changing my life through Tony Horton’s 10 Minute Trainer program. My only regret now is that I wish I’d started sooner! In retrospect, I think I held back because I was intimidated: I didn’t need or want a “beach body;” I just wanted to lead a healthier, stronger life.
As an age group and collegiate competitive swimmer for my entire young life, I functioned at an elite level of fitness. Trying to balance my work and home life as an adult, however, had a dramatic result: I lost the time and will to exercise, and instead began eating for stress relief. The more I stressed, the more I ate, and the more I ate, the more I stressed. It was a vicious, never-ending cycle. I began to feel hopeless about ever being able to make positive change in order to get to a place where I felt good about myself. I reached the end of my rope when I stepped on the scales last summer to realize that–five years after the birth of my last child–I weighed more than I did nine months pregnant! Something had to give.
I tried going to the gym, but had a difficult time fitting it into my schedule. Between my professional life and my job as chef and chauffeur to two kids, I could rarely find the time. When I did manage to get to the gym, I found myself discouraged by the noise and crowds. While I like fitness classes, they were often packed with people, and I never felt like I had a full range of motion when doing the exercises. Frequent lines for the cardio machines made it frustrating to try to plan a workout based on what might be available on any given day. Every time I got started with an exercise regimen, it stalled because of factors outside of my control: my daughter would get sick and have to stay home from school, or my favorite treadmill might be out of order. And once I lost momentum, that was it.
That’s where the 10 Minute Trainer came in. My mom friends and I meet once a week for coffee, and I noticed that my friend Sarah looked terrific. Her clothes fit better and her energy level was higher. She just seemed–for lack of a better word–healthy. When I asked if she’d been on a vacation, she laughed and said she’d started a new exercise program. I assumed that it would be beyond my time limitations and current fitness level, but she revealed that she was using the 10 Minute Trainer program. I remembered everything I’d heard about Beachbody, and considered the success of my friend, whose previous lifestyle and fitness level were similar to mine. In that moment, I decided I had nothing to lose by giving it a try.
I logged onto the Beachbody website and was delighted to be greeted with accessible, user-friendly information. I didn’t want to invest in a program I couldn’t understand, but Beachbody made it simple. I was able to learn about the program, and all the great perks and additions included to help keep participants on track. I also got Tony’s On-the-Go Workout cards which gave me one less excuse: I now take Tony with me wherever and whenever I go!
One of my favorite parts of the 10 Minute Trainer was the 2-Day Jump Start Plan. Sometimes the hardest part of establishing a fitness routine is getting started. This intensive, accelerated workout and nutrition plan got me charged up for more! And while the workouts were more intense than I’d originally anticipated, I felt great after getting the hang of it.
Since starting the 10 Minute Trainer, I have noticed that I don’t eat the same junk foods as before. My cravings are for fruit and water instead of chips and soda–a totally unexpected but delightful result!
With the 10 Minute Trainer, I have new hope. While I have always tried to be be a good role model for my daughter, I was missing one critical piece. Now, I show my daughter every day through my own actions that regular physical activity is an essential part of leading a happy, healthy life.
